Ready to Start Multiplication- Here’s an Easy Introduction!

If you're an elementary teacher, a homeschool parent, or just someone helping a child start their journey into multiplication, you’ve probably wondered, “Where do I even start?” A quick Google search can be overwhelming, offering all sorts of methods—manipulatives, charts, memorization, repeated addition... the list goes on!

But what if we told you there’s a simple, effective way to ease into multiplication? It’s called skip counting, and chances are, your child has already been doing it without realizing they’re laying the foundation for multiplication!

Skip counting is just counting by a specific number, like 2s, 3s, or 5s. Think about it—how often do we count by 2s? (“2, 4, 6, 8…”). Or by 3s? (“3, 6, 9, 12…”). This is multiplication in action in the real world!

We recommend starting with something familiar to most kids: counting. That’s exactly what our winter-themed multiplication worksheets are designed to do. Here’s how they work:

Each worksheet has a number line or sequence at the top. For example, when solving 2 × 3, the child simply looks at the line: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and counts over three “steps.” The third step lands on 6—voilà! That’s the answer.

This approach builds understanding through repetition, showing kids that multiplication is really just creating groups of numbers. It’s fun, visual, and easy to grasp. Once they’re fluent with numbers 1-10, they’ll be ready to tackle larger problems with confidence.

So, if you’re looking for a simple and engaging way to introduce multiplication, start with what kids already know: counting by 2s, 3s, and beyond. These worksheets make it fun to practice, and before you know it, they’ll be multiplying like pros!
